Well I did previously try using Linux Mandrake 8.1 and I had millions of problems, but a thought just sprang in my head, I have a spare windows 98 machine behind me doing nouthing. Linux sounds good to try now since I will still have my XP machine running perfectly. So here is the hardware which is on this old-timer. The Linux distro must be small though and must be able to remotley install from my XP machine or from a floppy drive the motherboard's bios doesn't like cd-roms.

Hardware:
Pentium Processor 77mhz
24 MB of RAM
Copyed from Device Manager:
CDROM;
TORiSAN CD-ROM CDR-S1G
(dunno why it shows up, I can never read a cd in it)
Disk drives;
GENERIC IDE DISK TYPE40
GENERIC NEX FLOPPY DISK
GENERIC NEX FLOPPY DISK
(C: has 810mb of space)
(two floppys one 3 1/5inch and 5 1/4 inch)
Display adapters;
S3 Trio32/64 PCI (732/764)
Floppy disk controllers;
Standard Floppy Disk Controller
Hard disk controllers;
Primary IDE controller (single fifo)
Standard Dual PCI IDE Controller
Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller
Keyboard;
Standard 101/102-key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard
Monitors;
Default Monitor
(its an old black and white Canon that does 640x480)
Mouse;
PS/2 Compatible Mouse Port
Network adapters;
3Com EtherLink III ISA (3c509b-TP) in PnP mode
Ports (COM & LPT);
Communications Port (COM1)
Communications Port (COM2)
Printer Port (LPT1)
System Devices;
Direct memory access controller
IO read data port for ISA plug and Play enumerator
Motherboard resources
Numeric data processor
PCI bus
Plug and Play BIOS
Processor support
Programmable interrupt controller
SIS PCI to ISA bridge
SIS Pentium(r) to PCI bridge (original model)
System board
System board extension for PnP BIOS
System COMS/real time clock
System speaker
System timer

If you want I can send a picture of what it looks like the hardware that is.

Is the space on C: with anything on it or not?

And you should be able to put in a little more RAM....that would help anything you put on it.

The space on C: is it formatted and clean. RAM is full unless I can find SIMM RAM in larger amounts so far it is all I got.

Was it on or off?

If off take it completely apart and give the board a shower.......

No it was on I learned a few lessons today, computers come with cases use them. Soda is best left in the kitchen and cats should never be allowed in the basement where liquid objects are near electronical objects which are powerd on.

EDIT:
All is not lost well most is. The hard drive, cdrom and floppies weren't affected. And my uncle has a machine that is a bit newer lacking a hard drive. Is this fate or just a large coincidence?

Now the hard part getting a hold of him!
