Just installed a new computer P4-1400 ,256 RdRam and Windows XP. The problem now is the modem (Aopen FM56-SLM V.90)makes the dialing sound even after it has connected with the ISP. This sound remains constant as long as the computer is connected to the net. Anyone know what's wrong and how I can correct this? Or is another one that is not compatibile to WinXP?
Please help. Thanks

Well that has to be awfully annoying. Windows does have a page with hardware compatibility you should be able to find by searching on Google.
Try some of these things -
Move the modem to a different slot
Uninstall modem through device manager reboot and reinstall drivers
If possible plug in to a different phone jack

Also check through the modem properties and make sure that you don't have the speaker set to always on.

I had this same problem with a Duron machine running ME. When I called the dealer, he told me he had installed the same modem on that machine dozens of times with no problems. If I wanted, I could send it back to him and he would send me something else.
I did and all was well. Don't know if it was OS compatability, MOBO, or just a bunk modem.
I have not seen XP yet, but I would imagine in control panel, under modem propeties, there is a setting to turn off the modem noise all together(like MJC said http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif )
