I have A DGI with windows 95 installed but no cd rom or working floppy. I have sucessfully linked my laptop to my desk top which has windows XP. I have connected using parallel cables. My question is would the version installed on the Dell XP be to much for my laptop to handle? Would I crash the system if I attempted to download msn or earthlink? I have a modem on my laptop.

Once again I will appreciate any assistance I may receive....Thanx

I am not real clear on what you are asking... that said, if you are asking if the laptop is likely to be able to handle MSN or Earthlink, probably yes. You can check the specs required for the software, but usually it isn't all that high for things to connect to the internet. I am not sure how your connection to your desktop is relevant unless you are planning to share an internet connection with the desktop. If that is what you are asking, it is a whole different issue.....

If all you want to do is set up a working internetconnection on the laptop, then it isn't necessary to download anything.

Assuming that you want to copy the connection from the XP machine, all the information you need is the dialup number, your username and password. In addition, to set up an email account, you need the server names. With this info to hand, open Control Panel>internet options> connections, and click setup, you will be prompted for the information to set up your connection.

Note the use of a "crossover cable"...I do believe these are different from the parallel cables you mention...
