Hi Seniors,

I am getting a DSL connection from Qwest soon and I am hoping to get a modem that has a wireless port and 4-port ethernet connection. I will be sharing this with two of my room mates.

I do not know anything about wireless networking and am wondering if anyone could give me pointers to where I can find tutorials or DIY material to read or walk me through wireless networking. I will use it to connect my laptop and one other base PC (for learning purposes).

I need to have a hardware firewall in my setup too. Can any one give a recommendation for a moderately priced one? I think this is the time to learn wireless networking and would appreciate your help(s) to get on my feet.

Thanks for all your helps in advance.

Many of these DSL/wireless devices have a hardware firewall included in the design. Can you post the brand/model of the Quest supplied modem?
Also, are you getting static address DSL with a router or are you getting dynamic DSL modem/switch with USB or TCP/IP?

Wireless is easy to hook up, most of the time. It is harder to secure against intrusions from outside. You want to turn on WEP. You also want to be certain to keep AV updated for all users and I would suggest a good software firewall on each of your users clients as well as the hardware firewall.
