Hello all,
First, system specs:
Intel Celeron 750
383 Mgb ram
Windows XP Pro

Some time back I started this machine with 2000. I then installed XP Pro. This created a boot choice of the two OS's. Since I never use 2000, I would like to clear it from the boot loader.
I can't remember how to do this:( anybody want to help? :)

Thanks
Frank

First, edit boot.ini so that the line referencing Win2K is removed (the relevant line would look similar to:-
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(x)\WINNT="Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect)

Second, delete all the relevant Win2K files or format its partition.

You can easily edit boot.ini by RClicking MyComputer and choosing Properties >> Advanced >> Startup and Recovery.

Make a backup of boot.ini first if worried about changing the wrong things by mistake.

You could also format a floppy (from WinXP) and then copy boot.ini, ntdetect.com and ntldr onto it from the root of the system partition. This will not only give you copies of the originals but give you an emergency boot floppy to start-up your system. You could even play around with the boot.ini on the floppy first before changing it on the HDD.
