Caught me off guard jeeza ;) At first I thought this was a current posting. With Linus posting a “.fi” e-mail and saying he only had 386’s, I thought it was suspicious. I just recently read an article in Fortune Magazine (http://www.fortune.com) about Open Source (http://www.fortune.com/fortune/technology/articles/0,15114,588422,00.html) software and what it’s doing to the big guys.
In the February paper version is a picture of four gentlemen standing in front of a house in San Jose Ca. who have created some of the most powerful open source products.
Linus is one of them and owner of the (approximately) $800,000 to $1,000,000 tract house (depends on neighborhood) and the $45,000+ Mercedes in the garage. Since I knew he lived in California and was livin a little large, I thought the e-mail addy and statement about 386’s made this bogus. I then caught sight of the date it was posted, “1991-08-25”.
That’s kinda kewl

Hail bassman, I greet thee Grand Master Geek !
Linux might ultimately replace Windows, and Linus might become the new Bill Gates, judging from the figures you are quoting... it's all about being "mainstream", isn't it ?
Besides, did you ever ask yourself (you or anyone else, this is a rhetorical question) why Linus Torvalds named his operating system after his own first name ?

Kinda, I know.
Linus is cool, Linux is cool, PcGuide is cool, you are cool too.
If ever humanity goes to its perdition, we will at least have the consolation of knowing that we - some of us maybe not included - have been cool.
