I've got an hp300 ex.DVD burner that hasn't done much more than burn a simple CD!
I capture in real time, then it "converts" from analog if needed,(in real time again) eventually giving a "failure to write disc" message.

It came with many support programs for various tasks such as Arcsoft,Roxio, simple back up, etc. I've also tryed Win Movie Maker.

I am somtimes capturing from my digital cable box which should not need conversion.

Help

Hi sprayman, welcome to ,

What is your actual problem ? Are you saying that you are not able to burn a dvd-video from captured movie files ? Are we missing some steps between I capture in real time, then it "converts" from analog if needed,(in real time again) and eventually giving a "failure to write disc" message.?.

To get a fruitful reply, you need to give us something to go by, like the version of your os, hardware specs, the procedure you have followed in brief, the software used and the exact particulars of error message if any?

First, thanks for the reply. I'm new at Discussion Forums so I hope that this reply is posted where it will be seen by shanmuga and others.

System:
OK, I am using an HP notebook w/XP Home, 256mb, 500 mh, 14g hard drive @ about 35 o/o free, 2.0 USB (upgrade using the PCI slot).

Hardware:
HP DVD Movie Writer DC 3000 (external)
(I can check for more hardware specs if needed)

Software used:
1. Acrsoft, Showbiz2
Using the Wizard, I've tried using the "create quick DVD" option which, I think, captures and then should auto burn the DVD. It gets to either the "transcoding"? or "splitting" step (or process)and then quites giving me the " failure message".

I have used the "capture" option, then after capturing is complete, tried to "Create" from the saved capture file.
Again, I've capture from both an analog VHS tape and also captured from
a "ditgital video recorder" (DVR) from my cable service.

Also tried the above steps to do a VD rather than a DVD

2. Window Movie Maker:
Upon choosing the "capture" option, it says that a cpture devices not found.

3. Simple Back-up
This does work ok

Need More?
Thanks again

To capture from VHS, etc., I think you are going to need some kind of
capture card like an adaptec VideOH!

Sprayman, I would suspect that you need more juice to run the task you are attempting.

For eg, "System Requirements for running Arcsoft Showbizz

# Pentium III 800 MHz or higher (PIV 1.6 GHz or higher recommended)
# Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP (Windows 2000/XP recommended)
# 400 MB free hard drive space for program installation
# 4 GB+ free hard drive space for video capture and editing
# 128 MB RAM (512 MB DDR RAM recommended)
# 16-bit color display at 1024 x 768
# DirectX 9
# Windows Media Player 9.0 recommended
# 7200 RPM hard drive recommended

Note: 1 hour of DV video requires 13 GB of hard drive space"
