Why do i keep getting new program installed AOL

Every now and then on Windows XP i get the new program installed in my start window and a AOL icon shows up in my start menu. I have never had AOL installed but i do have AIM installed (as alot of fiends use it). What keeps reinstalling the AOL ad in start menu and is there a way to get it to stop, without removing instant messenger?

Sorry, i meant is there a way to get it to STOP putting the new ad in my start-up menu without removing instant messenger. (ill edit to fix it)
