View Full Version : 98SE and XP conundrum?

Just wondering if anyone can help me. If I click on www.bafc.co.uk it opens perfectly on my desktop which runs under MS 98SE. But it won’t open completely on my laptop which runs under MS XP Home Edition. Part of it is there but the icons (ie the tiny red square, green ball and blue triangle inside a square) won’t open. Have tried left and right clicks but no joy. Any idea what to do? Thanks.

Have only tried the site on my XP machine and I don't see the shapes either, but my guess is it is a Java applet. Java is not installed on XP by default whereas it is on 9x. Get the Sun JRE from here: http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_manual.jsp
I would suggest (for security reasons) to get this version for your 9x system as well and use it instead of the the MS Java VM.
Edit- It may be Flash (Macromedia or Shockwave) that needs updating. The triangles and ball within a square sounds like Flash.

Malcore, thanks for trying to help. Have successfully downloaded the Java stuff – still no joy. Tried to download Macromedia Flash – but it won’t download/install. Any other bright ideas?

It's definitely Macromedia Flash that you need. Available here (http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash). What sort of problems are you encountering when you try to dl/install it?

Pentachris – Clicking on Install Now opens another window and the first message reads:
"When you see the installation completion movie above and text below your installation was successful . . ."
Well, there is no movie and no text just the tiny red square, green ball and blue triangle inside a square.

Internet Exploder? Or another browser?

Yes, I use Internet Explorer, although my ISP is AOL. I have tried both the AOL and the Internet Explorer browser, but no success so far.

Try trouble with windows installation (http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/ts/documents/playerfaq.htm#install_win)

malcore - just to let you know that the link is now working. Shall go through the individual items and see if any of them provide the answer.
