At first, my monitor used to snap, crackle and pop when I shut down. I thought it was normal. Now it's crackling all the time and the screen keeps fluxuating and changing sizes and seems darker at times. Is this my monitor saying "Bye Bye" or does sound like some cord issue or hookup problem? The monitor is only about 2.
A little past time to start shopping for a new one....
yes, it is about to move to that great Tube resthome in the sky.

Sounds like monitor is going away to me. It is ok for CRT to crackle a little on shutdown, heat and static electricity discharges are ok. It is another thing to have power/brightness fluctuations.
NEVER open the CRT case unless you are trained in CRT/TV repair. There are voltages and amperes inside that can kill. Repair might be possible but probably not economically feasable.

Two Days? Months? Years? Decades? :p
Your Monitor may indeed be saying "Bye Bye", (You didn't by any chance spill a box of Rice Krispies in there did you?) :p
My guess is that it's time to go Shopping. :(
Noticicably loud "Snaps Crackles and Pops" are generally NOT a good thing.
The best test would be to try it on another Computer...(or another Monitor on your Computer).
Unless the Monitor is still under warranty, it will probably be cheaper to buy another than have it repaired....What ever you do, never open the thing up.......DEADLY Voltages within (Even after being unplugged for quite some time).
(Edit) You know, this is getting silly....From now on, when I walk away from my computer for some reason in the middle of Posting a reply, I'm going to check first and see if someone beat me too it....(I should know by now you've got to be quick around here! :p

When my first monitor broke down I took it to my local friendly repair shop and they fixed it for about £30.
But it didn't last long before it again broke down and I had to take it back.
They said they would get it working again for free, but then when I went to collect it they asked me to pay.
They were asking a reduced fee, so I paid up, but I didn't like it.
Again it lasted a short time and broke down yet again.
This time I bought a new 17 inch Iiyama and it has been working totally trouble free ever since.
They have a special scheme where if the monitor breaks down within 3 years of purchase:
You send back the broken monitor in its original packing, they read the monitor's internally recorded hours of use, and they immediately send you a used replacement of equal or better quality and ability, with the same or fewer hours of use.
