Hi

After playing Warrior Kings (3D super graphics game) screen resolution was back to 640 x 480 instead of our normal 1024 x 768 and the colours were 16. Tried to go into Display properties / settings and reset them, comes up to restart to activate settings but no matter how many times or ways we have tried the settings will not apply. We tried to system restore and it won't work either.
Graphics card is a NVidia GeForce 32MB DDR 2 DTS. Windows ME. 256MB RAM. 1.7GHz Processor. Dell Dimension 8100.
Tried to run a virus scan but after a few minutes screen went black and message appeared saying "Cannot display this video mode! Also, mouse cursor disappeared through most of this. AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGH. PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP ME!!!?

Try reinstalling the video card drivers....

If you have a backup of your C: drive you can re-format the C: drive and restore the backup. [Using disaster recovery floppies in the case of "Simple Backup".]
It's really easy to do when you practice it as a matter of routine.
That would undo any unfortunate changes to the files or configuration settings and put your software back the way it was when all was well.

Think of it as insurance against any and all kinds of software problems.
If this doesn't fix a problem, it's most likely a hardware, or BIOS Setup problem, or an infection in the partition sector.
In that case you need an anti-virus rescue disk.

If you don't have a system of backup I'd advise you strongly to get one and use it.

We uninstalled and re-installed the graphics card driver and computer was back to normal (phew!)

Thanks for all your help once again!
