I'm thinking of buying an iPod.

I hear the iPod battery life is not that great. Before I lash out the $$$ on this beasty does anyone have any comments on whether they've sorted out the problem with the battery life and/or replacement battery cost?

Any other iPod issues anyone would care to mention that'd be worth considering?

Thanks.........

I think the average lifespan of the battery is a year and a half, then it no longer recharges. Which is a bad thing, because the case is hermetically sealed, and replacement is quite difficult.

Apple recently started a battery replacement program - I saw something about it on CNN a few weeks ago.

The most famous crusaders for the cause started a website (http://ipodsdirtysecret.com/\) you can ceck out for more info.

You might want to consider this player (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000EI9VR/qid=1078857492//ref=pd_ka_1/102-3378382-7175368?v=glance&s=pc&n=507846) by IRiver. I got it just under a week ago and i love it. Plays lots of codecs, is VERY feature rich (FM Tuner, Optical and analog line in/out for recording directly from external sources, and much more), and what you may appreciate most...gets up to 16, yes 16 hours of battery life on a single charge.
