I'm running Windows 2000 and all of a sudden, my system can't start up completely. It boots, gets to the "Starting Windows 2000" screen, shuts down, restarts, gets to the "Starting Windows 2000", shuts down and restarts again. It just keeps going around in a loop and I don't know why. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. The only thing I've done new is to load McAfee anti virus to the pc.

I would try to boot into safe mode and uninstall mcaffe and see what happens

If you cant even boot to safe mode then boot to the installation CD and do a "Repair Installation" - MSKB 292175 - otherwise known as How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows 2000 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;292175).

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried repairing Windows 2000 but to no avail, I then tried reinstalling Windows 2000 formatting the harddrive, but it get to 13% and then the dreaded blue screen appears. I think I have a bad harddrive. I've actually tried installing 2 different copies of Windows 2000 and neither will finish installing. Should I just go out and buy another harddrive???

Grab the HDD manufacturers diagnostic utility from their website, create the floppy to run it from and then use it to test out the drive.
