I am repairing a friends PC. I get 2 Beeps and then a keyboard error or Keyboard not attached message on start up. It prompts me to use F1 to enter BIOS. Obviously if the computer doesn't see the KB I can't get into the system.
So, I have tried a different KB, monitor, tested the CPU in another system, checked all teh memory modules. All that checks out. DO i have to chuck the Motherboard or is they something else I can do? It is a Socket 3 MB

Keyboard error or no keyboard present
Cannot initialize the keyboard. Make sure the keyboard is attached correctly and no keys are pressed during POST. To purposely configure the system without a keyboard, set the error halt condition in Setup to HALT ON ALL, BUT KEYBOARD. The BIOS then ignores the missing keyboard during POST. don't know if this will help you.

How do I do that when I can't get passed the error without pressing a key???
Is there a physical jumper on the board I can move??
I would really like to get this working. I can't quit!!!
Keyboard is tested an fine. If they is damage to the KB port, can it be repaired or is the MB junk now??
Thanks. A million. Terie ( Baby Geek)

If you have tried anouther keyboard and you still get the error the keyboard controller is quite possibly gone, if the board hsa USB ports and you have the option in BIOS (you may need the manual for the motherboard to find out) to enabled it you may be able to use a USB keyboard....

Have you tried connecting the keyboard to a "Serial\PS2" adaptor? This works with a mouse (converting it from PS2 to serial) so maybe it will work with keyboard

http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/booterrGBER33-c.html

this is definatly not an easy one go to the site above read the recommendation:there are three options trouble shoot key board,"""" "" keyboard controler,"""" as a motherboard failure. This is pc guides trouble shooting recommendations for this type of error,so it's loaded with straight forward ways of doing this.there is no sense in trashing the mobo or keyboard yet until you go thru the trouble shooting first and try and find the problem?

Keyboard errors
#1. Check keyboard connection.
#2. Check if keyboard is "AT" compatible.
#3. Try different keyboard.
#4. Set GATE A20 setting in CMOS to NORMAL

IM not sure what this Gate A20 setting is in CMOS maybe someone else will sorry not much help NY, I've searched your error and every site I go to is the same thing, that this is a stumper.
