I want to share my computer with my firends computer who is located 6 miles away from my house. I also wish to setup a n/w where only restricted access can be done i.e only by restricted people. I wish to setup something like an Intranet, without any n/w cables. Expecting good soln. soon.:p

Well you can use IIS in win2000 server to set up an FTP connection and then use integrated authentication.

There are programs such as PC Anywhere that can do it.
I've been using the Serv-U ftp server program for the past month and it is working well.

My preference for this is Tight VNC
http://www.tightvnc.com/
It is a secure program.
At present I am using the beta 1.3 which allows the transfering of individual files from location to loacation.

Hi mike2002,
I think what they are refering to is the unknowing installation of an ftp server, which puts the computer at risk. Check out This (http://research.pestpatrol.com/Search/FileInfoResults.asp?MD5=8160a2d27883beaf3e3f6fb9f7 bea21f) page for file info. As you can see, they rate the program as safe.
FTP seems to be very unsecure. Even though programs like Serv-U provide encryption and the use of passwords and user names, you still have a port open. Port scans like the one at Gibson Research (http://grc.com/default.htm) always pick it up. But I think that is just the nature of FTP. The user name and password, required to access the site, is about all the security that I know of.
If you (or anyone else) know of other ways to get security on an ftp server, I would be interested in it.
:)
