64Bit OS VS. 32Bit OS (Windows XP).....

Ok, in finding out if a 64 bit Operating System could beat out a 32 bit operating system , I had to test them both. I used Sansoft Sandra 2004 to get the lowdown. I compared Windows XP SP1 to Windows XP 64 Extended Version for AMD (Beta). Also my resolution was 1,024 x 768, and my rig was the same for both Operating Systems. You can see my rig in my profile if you like. Ok here it is , be suprised.........

Not a totally pristine comparison (it never is :rolleyes: ) but definitely something to chew on...

By the way, what CPU did you use? 64 or FX?

Odds are the lags in the multimedia performance can be put up to bad drivers (or i guess relatively bad) drivers for the 64bit interface.

No, i have not tried Linux 64. I gave up on linux when it took me a week and half to put java on it. :rolleyes: Although, i might use it to strictly benchmark the cpu.

Oh nah, No way I'd throw it out the window unless some one was out to catch it. heh

Yes i have onboard sound :rolleyes: . The pitiful sound coupled with bad drivers could be the culprit.

Max PC used the same Beta XP 64-bit and got the same numbers you have. Quite frankly the drivers are in development stage so I'd take those with a grain of salt. At present im running Mandrake 64-bit Linux and it runs circles around my friends Intel pen 4 3.0 running the 32-bit Linux Mandrake. I'd be interested to see those figures again when the offical release of XP 64 comes out this year.
