I'm trying to set up my Windows 2000/XP printer so it can be used to print from other machines running Linux & BeOS. I have done this successfully in the past. I installed the "print services for unix" & set it to "automatic" in the "Services" section. I then "add new printer" > select "create new port" > select "lpr" port & fill in the server info (I've tried both the Name ("puter1") & also by address (192.168.1.xxx). When I try to print a test page nothing happens > although when I check the documents section it does show it's printing.

This problem is happening on both Windows 2000 & XP Pro.

Any ideas?

fill in the server info (I've tried both the Name ("puter1") & also by address (192.168.1.xxx).

Use the assigned IP address of the printer, NOT the server. It should be an unused address in the same setup as your private network. You are porting the print job to the printer, not the server.

Delete the previous attempt from the print que as it will clog the spooler, preventing print jobs.
