VERY slow internet connection....is it a virus?

Can anyone help? My ADSL internet connection on my wireless laptop seems painfully slow although other PCs on the network appear fine. My virus software can't find anything wrong but moving from page to page is taking ages. Nothing appears to have changed on the laptop so I'm stumped. Any ideas anyone? Gary

What are the specs/OS of your laptop?
It could be spyware/adware, do you have all the patches up to date?

Everytime I see that I shudder....

There are so many layers to work with.

1st you have the normal causes of slowdowns, which could be software (malicious stuff is a possibility), or hardware problems (NIC).

Secondly, you have the wireless component, interference can cause slowdowns because all the data would be being sent multiple times to combat the interference.

Third you have the fact that some speople specifically target wireless connections, not to steal personal info (although that does happen), but rather to steal the connection itself.
so, when you post your specs, we can start checking each area......
