whenever i shut my computer down for a while, and i go to restart it, i have problems getting my monitor to come on. then green monitor light comes on, then it'll say 'power saving' and then the light goes to orange and it won't come back on. are my settings messed up somewhere? or maybe a jumper on the motherboard needs to be moved? i manage to get it to come on after powering off and on a few times, but i'd like to fix the problem.

You might want to have a look in SAFEMODE under the Monitor and check for the possibility of multiple monitors...
You could try the REMOVE from there and let Windows find and reinstall upon reboot...

Try the monitor on another computer to make sure it works. Check all BIOS settings to see if another video adapter is set to primary (PCI vs AGP usually). Check all cables to see if any are loose. Check power management features in the Control Panel.
As you can see, there are many things it could be. We'd also like to know what hardware you have in your PC.

hey guys, well i can tell you everything i have in my setup except for the brand of monitor i have. i seem to have thrown away just that information. something i did notice under the power supply information in the control panel. it says that the Uninterruptible Power Supply is stopped. could that be the source of the problem?
there is only 1 monitor set up, i checked under the hardware properties.
i'm going to check the BIOS as advised by saphalline.
i have a ATI Radeon 9600 graphics card, Pentium 4 processor 2.4 ghz, asus p4c800 motherboard, western digital 120GB hard drive.
something i actually just noticed in the device manager, under display adapters, there are two Radeon 9600s listed. one of them says secondary. and under processors there are 2 Pentium 4s listed.
