Hi Everyone,

Hope you can help me out with this one. I have a computer I am trying to fix for a friend who bought it from a friend with no books or manuals. The computer is a HP Pavilion 6645c.

I reinstalled windows 98SE onto the computer but now I graphics display will only output 2 or 16 colours. I need to get a video driver for the standard PCI graphics adapter (VGA). HP's site has been no help. What information do I need and where do I find a driver for this computer? I can't seem to find any information on the motherboard itself to tell me what type it is. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

It is an onboard card.

Hello Deadshot,
Sounds like you need the HP install disk. This will have the proper video driver. You could also try a Windows update and see if it picks up an updated driver.
If you don't have the HP install disk, your friend can order it from HP directly by supplying them with the model and serial number.

Good luck

According to the product specifications here (http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?reg=&plc=&lc=en&cc=us&prodId=hppavilion19765&docName=bph05434&cat=prodinfo#P85_1306) the onboard video has the Intel 810 chipset. Try these drivers (http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/filter_results.asp?strOSs=18&strTypes=DRV%2CARC&ProductID=798&OSFullName=Windows*+98+SE&submit=Go%21) for Win 98SE.

More info and manuals on the HP 6645c here (http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/taskPageSelect.jhtml?reg=&plc=&lc=en&cc=us&prodId=hppavilion19765&pagetype=prodinfo&docparent=prodinfo) .

Try here (http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?reg=&plc=&lc=en&cc=us&cat=prodinfo&prodId=hppavilion19765&docName=bph07142.html) for HP's instructions on how to restore the drivers.

Also, that onboard vide is the Intel 810 chipset, so if you want to bypass the HP stuff entirely you can get the latest drivers directly from Intel...

810 driver page (http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/filter_results.asp?strOSs=18&strTypes=DRV%2CARC%2CUTL&ProductID=178&OSFullName=Windows*+98+SE&submit=Go%21)

Thanks!!

I went to the Intel site, grabbed the driver loaded it up and it worked like a charm!

Thanks to everyone who posted help. It is much appreciated.
