Hello,
I am prompted to bios screen when booting PC. On that screen I can auto detect for Hard drive (older bios ...amibios ver1.2 (c) 1997) when I save changes and exit the system detects primary master (10.08M WDC AC35100L) and Secondary master (V4.6A UTI V4.6A) and then I am given this error message:

///A:drive error
///Pri Master HDD error
///Run setup
///Press F1 to resume...

I am stuck at this point...any advice is GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks in advance..

Hello, of course, sorry i haven't mentioned that...
I inherited this pc a GT 266 from a friend who said her boyfriend screwed it up and without warranty they never took it in for repairs. I tried rebooting it with A:drive assuming that because of its age it was probally running win 95. if not i figured i could install 95 on the pc (I have registered install disk). So i have had trouble booting; I cannot get a dos prompt or nothing. I saw a message stating to bypass setup hit "delete". this brought me into bios and I see the Ide is labeled not installed. I have tried to auto detect but that isnt helping. The bios version is amibios v1.2 (c) 1997. i checked their website and they are up to version 8 now so i know the system is at least before 97. It is something given to me and the pc i am communicating to you with is current with win ME so I am just trying to get this thing working as a hobby. Hope this helps and any other info you may need please ask.
thank you

Hello Zahms,
Yes that helps alot. Do you have a Bootdisk? If not, go Here (http://bootdisk.com) and download the "Win98 with CD-ROM support" version. It will work with a Win95 install http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
Remove the CMOS battery (about the size of a quarted) and let the machine sit for a bit. Reinstall the battery, boot, go into BIOS and be sure that A: is the first boot device. Reboot with your new disk in the A drive.
If you are still getting errors, post back and we can go from there.

Hello,
Thank you for your response it is greatly appreciated.
I have gone to the site you suggested but i am not seeing a download named specifically "win98 with cdrom support" I am just wanting to make sure i do get the right program before i go tinkering in side my side project pc.
If you have a chance could you either please check the site to ensure the program you suggested is still there, or could you please be more specific about location of download on that page. If it is one of the ones in the first list then i think it has been moved...
Thank you for you help and expertise and i will be waiting to hear from you.

Also I'd just replace the battery while I'm at it....a couple of bucks at Wal-mart and if the machine does not want to keep the drive settings between boots the it looks like it is probably dead. Unless it has a soldered battery...then you need to find where the replacement header is and what the proper replacement prodcedure is.....

Zahms, click on bootdisks link by "UserFriendly" then click "boot98se.exe", you should be all set.
