View Full Version : help balloons on xp

on the xp desktop I keep getting 'helpful' balloons popping up as the cursor moves over objects.

As they are not telling me anything new, and I have seen them a zillion times, how can I turn them off?

The 'help' function does not seem to tell you how - its probably listed under something like 'user prompted autonomous textual aid' or similar tech babble.

As ever, any ideas appreciated.

I was looking around the Control panel and Task bar Advanced options thinking it was there.
It then occurred to me that I think you must disable them with a registry tweak. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong)

In any case, the easiest way is to download TWEAKUI in Power Toys For XP (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp) .

After installation, you will be able to uncheck (disable)"Balloon Tips" under the "Task Bar and Start menu Settings". (Of course, Tweakui is nothing more than a "registry tweaker" anyway....And a program I wouldn't be without!)

If you haven't tried it before, give it a shot. Great little program! ;)
