Hi,

I have decided to go ahead and upgrade my PC, as I figured it would be cheaper to build/upgrade than to purchase one. I am not an expert at this at all, I have decided to give it a go I understand the basics of computer building but thats as far as it goes. I can't solder very well, however, I do listen and I will grasp the fundemental process of this build thoroughly beforehand.

my specs at the moment are:

Hewlett Packard
Intel pentium 600mhz
20.gb HD
64mb Ram
56k modem
Basic sound
Bsic graphics

Ideally I would like to upgrade to

2.8/3.0 GB Processor AMD ATHLON XP
512 MB hdd Ram
80.0 Gb
256 Ge force graphics
5.1 Surround audigy
56k Modem

I have a suitable tower unit which is a Hewlett packard one from the shops it has the capability of upgrading to 512 MB HDD RAM

and the capability to hold geforce graphic however, the processing speed is terribly slow, I need advice on the best way to go about changing the processor, i.e do I have to change the motherboard, ifso what is the procedure to go about changing it and re loading the above hardware on to it if I bought them seperately, also can I buy a motherboard with the 80.0 HDD build on or does that have to be added seperately

I already have boxed unopened - the geforce graphics and the audigy sound and the tower unit just waiting for a little advice.

I would appreciate your feedback,

Darren

Well yes you can't use an AMD processor on an intel board

also can I buy a motherboard with the 80.0 HDD build on or does that have to be added seperately

Well no the HDD is a seperate entity

I would suggest doing some reading before making any decisions and then post some more questions on things you might not understand.
