Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone here has had a problem with a pop up called atwola. My nephew has Netscape, and just recently every time he tries to access it or his mail, he gets a message saying it Netscape is searching for ar.atwola.com, then he gets this error message saying Netscape caused an error and kicks him out. He can no longer access Netscape or his Netscape communicator. He says there is also an icon that is called talkback that he never saw before that keeps appearing, and no matter how many times he removes it from msconfig, it keeps coming back.I have done some research and one thing I read from someone was that he deleted all his cookies that had anything to do with aol and he got rid of it. I haven't had a chance to relay this to my nephew yet since he is at work, but in the meantime, I thought I would see what I could find out here in this forum. Thanking anyone in advance for any help they can give, I am,
Pat

It is an ads host and AOL has nothing to do with it.

I would suggest Spybot/Adaware scans and then HJT.
Post log for HJT here without removing any items yet.

also if your pretty slick you can use this to block scumware and parasites

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

or use a BHO blocker or adsheild

after you remove it of course...

ar.atwola is a little bit more than just an ads host.....

It (atwola) is a network of content servers, their primary business is hosting ads.

But they also host other things like some AOL/Netscape stuff, so blocking them may or may not be advisable.

Talkback is the NS error reporting tool....it can be disabled in the browser preferences.

Thanks for the help.
If he doesn't delete this, how does he access Netscape? His problem is it can't find atwola and gives him an error and won't let him access Netscape or his mail.
Also, where are the preferences in Netscape for blocking talkback.

You post to a 4 year old thread asking how to allow malware to infest your system... That is extremely suspicious...

I am closing this thread...
