I want to get new speakers for my desktop pc...and I want something that will handle high volume & lots of bass...
Device Manager under System Properties shows that I currently have Creative Sound Blaster AudioPCI 128/Sound Blaster AudioPCI 128 Legacy Device.
Any suggestions???

Do you have an entertainment center? Or other stereo equipment? You could just send the soundcard signal to an auxiliary channel in an alternate system as I do and it sounds great! Lot's of 'base'balls (http://www.composeit.ca/images/johnny%20headphones%20web.jpg) too!!! :D

I've used PA's, regular stereo receivers (showing my age now), and 5.1 Home Entertainment systems. They all crank!

You could get a mid-range set of speakers like the Logitech Z-340's for only about $50. I have them and they're more than adequate for most audio duties. If you want anything better (ie surround sound), buy a new sound card. The Sound Blaster PCI128 is too old for 5.1 channels.

What's your budget? If you get a new PCI audio card, you're also gonna want to move up your speaker selection. Unless you don't have room for surround-sound. ;)
Logitech's Z-640's are a step up from the Z-340's, and are 5.1 surround-sound capable. Only about $100, which is impressive for a 5.1 system (though they lack the watts and definition for audiophiles).
Creative Labs' Audigy, Audigy2, or Audigy2 ZS are all good choices, albeit at different prices. :p Any of them would be a tremendous step up from a SB 128, but the plain Audigy2 represents the best sound per dollar spent, IMO.

i just picked a set of creative blaster speaker. like 66 watts (specs elude me right now the box is around her somwear. it uses 2 stereo headphone stlye plugs to suply signal to the sub and 4 other speakers. bass leval is controllable on the back of the sub and volume control is on a separate box with you can mount anywere. (ive hid mine under the desk) its pretty trick for 44 bucks less tax. blows my old setup outa the watter. im also linend into my reciver for even more kick. i even have an output to my bed room for my stereo up there. :D

If you don't want to upgrade your system, consider a set of Klisch speakers. I have an old system. I bought a set of "ProMedia 2.1" direct from them. They had some refirbished speakers. They sound great, blow out the walls and almost have too much subwoofer.
I looked to see if they still had any, but the closest I could find is a set of Star Wars -- I'm not sure if that is a logo or color. You can go to http://store.klipsch.com/details.asp?ProdID=26 to see them. They are half the original price.
