I have three computers that I need to set up to share internet and printers/files. I have been using my current set-up for the past year but I am always having trouble with it. Here is my set up:
Internet
|
Linksys Router
| | |
Comp1 Comp2 Linksys Wireless Transmitter - - - - - - Comp3

Now the Problems:

-Sometimes Computer 3 can't get the shared files from Comp1. Comp2 always can.
-All 3 computers lose the internet connection briefly for like a minute periodically through out the day. Some days none at all and some days it seems like every 30 minutes or so.

Comp1 has all the files that need to be shared stored on it.
I am not sure if I have everything configured correctly, but for the past year or so all computers can access the internet and all have been able to print/file share and the connections seem to be working. Its the intermittent problems that I am concerned with.

One last thing, one computer is a compaq and it runs a program in the back ground called compaq connections agent. Does anyone know what this program is? When I end task I can still use the internet so I am at a loss for what it is doing.

Thanks for your help.

Since computer 3 seems to be using wireless my first thought would be to check for interference such as from a wireless phone running on the same 2.4GHz frequency.

Assuming that you are using broadband, I got a quick question for you. Are you using a splitter? Example: You have cable television and your cable modem attached to the same wall jack for service.

If so, that is most likely your problem on your internet cutting out every once in a while. One resolution is to just remove the splitter and connect your modem directly into the wall jack. You might see a significant increase of your internet speed as well as a better reception on neighboring TV's that are being watched. Another is to get an signal booster, but I haven't seen that solution work consistantly. Better to just hook up to a wall jack by itself. Or...your ISP has a bad connection to your location as far as cabling/wiring. I got a friend that is having that same problem where he is at and it's nuts!

With the file sharing between your wifi machine and the hard wired ones, I would try to see if you are running the latest NIC driver on your wifi machine. On that note, see if an upgrade on your Linksys Router firmware is available, but read the release notes before actually installing it.

Hope that helps.
