Printer port Help

I tried to install a Memorex re-writer on my p3 win98, I chose to keep my current cd rom aswell. After I restarted ,the new hardware had taken over my zipdrive letter wich was F, so I re-allocated the new hardware to G. I now can`t find my zipdrive and am being told drive letter F does not exist and, when I access the zipdrive software,It says there is no zipdrive installed. I did attempt to re-install the zipdrive,but it was connected to a SCSI wich according to Iomega is a big no no. The machine uses the paralell printer port, so I connected the printer directly to the paralell port, only to find it also has a problem
ie a communication error has occured.When I installed the re-writer I had to disconnect the parallel connector to get at the audio socket!!!. Is there a way to check the parallel port? I have tried to get into setup to check it is enabled, but for some reason I now have to press f1 to start my pc and can`t access setup using f2.

My guess is that either you didn't get the cable fo the prot connected properly or you reversed the connection and it is no longer pin 1 to pin1 (an internal connection, right?).
