I've got two Trinitron P780s on Dell Optiplex 110s running NT that are stuck in power saving mode. I was swapping them to check a problem on one and and when I reconnected the cables, they are in power saving mode and the keyboard and/or mouse won't bring them out. I've unplugged the power cords, rebooted with the monitor off, rebooted with the monitor on, pressed the Windows key + Enter, all to no avail. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks.

I took the CMOS battery out and put it back in and then rebooted and I can see the desktop again but it is still not right.

Classic,
I'm not sure how to explain it but I'll try. The display isn't clear, appears to be faded, like there isn't enough light, dim. Fonts look as if they are missing pieces. Windows have what looks like light streaks at their corners and cross from left side to right side and are sortof darker then lighter then darker again. Some colors display totally wrong ie. burgandy is navy blue, white is grey.

Can you try the monitor on a different system?
What does it look like if you boot with a dos or win9x startup disk?

Yeah. Try the monitor on a different system. This really sound like a kaput video card.

I tried it on a Win98 system and again it was in power saving mode. Evidently whenever the cable is disconnected it goes into psm and doesn't want to come out.
I get the same result booting from my boot disc as I did earlier. I read somewhere that this could be caused by the mfg when they installed the original software, someone forgot to turn off the power safe setting on the motherboard before shipping the unit to the customer and because of that, the system will only recognize the monitor used at the factory. That doesn't explain the psm on the W98 system though.

At this point, it is time to call the manufacturer's tech support and see what they say. I assumes there are buttons on the front of the monitor where you can control the settings. You might be able to solve the problem there. If the problem remains in DOS and repeats itself on a different computer that would rule out the video card and leave the monitor. The last thing I would check was the pins on the cable. If they are bent or loose, that can also cause problems.
