Hey guys. I just need some help with what is hopefully a minor problem. I just installed win 98 on a new PC i just got and cant connect to the net. When I did the initial install I didnt have any of the drivers for any of the devices so I had to go to Linksys.com to get the driver for the network adapter. After installing the driver, which im pretty sure is the correct one, it still wont allow me to connect to the net. All i get is a web page with a message saying not available. The reason im using the network apater is because I have dsl which requires it. And im pretty sure the net connecetion is worknig correctly because the pc I am on right now connects to the net fine as well as my PS2. Any suggestions.

P.S. When I look in the device manager, it tells me that the adapter is enabled and working.

When it comes to network adapters you need to have the EXACT right one for the card or it is not going to work.

FYI, I use 3Com cards and have a disk that has all their adapters and finds/loads the right one automatically, saving tons of time on the internet sites trying to get the right ones.

What kind of network do you have?

Is there a hub/switch?

Do you have TCp/IP installed.

Need a whole lot more information

A couple of things which need to be checked (as well as posting us some more info on your system)

make sure that under the internet options, you are connecting via your local area network (an ethernet card to dsl is considered part of a LAN)
Make sure that you don't need a specific MAC address to connect to the net.
Many net connections are set up with a specific PC - the ISP will then assign the IP address to the PCs (actually the NIC) MAC address. Trying to use a different PC can cause problems.
Are you trying to connect two pcs to the net at the same time?
If so, then you'll need a router capable of distributing the link - using hubs doesn't usually work, as there has to be a default gateway to the modem/internet.
