Hey all,
I've got a quick question. I just installed a new MB (Jetway 771AS). On the bootup screen, the board seems to recognize all my drives (it lists them as they are installed- see below). The BIOS recognize my HD, but I can't get the BIOS to recognize my CD-RW and CD-ROM drives in setup. My cables appear to be good and I can access my HD in Windows (but not my CD drives, hence I can't load my MB drivers). Any ideas or suggestions??
My drives:
Maxtor 15 GB (primary master)
Creative 24x CD-ROM (primary slave)
CenDyne CD-RW (secondary master)
Thanks,
Dale
Are both IDE channels enabled? Is everything set up to auto-detect? Are the jumpers for the drives properly set for the locations you have them?
Also try the CD and the CD-RW on the same channel...

Thans for responding. I double-checked my jumper settings- they're OK. I've also tried a variety of drive combinations- dropping each CD drive out (with the correct jumpering), moving both CD drives to the same (secondary) IDE controller, changing out IDE cables, etc.- but nothing works. In bootup, all my drives are detected correctly, but when I go into CMOS setup, neither of my CD drives show up, even after running auto detect (which I have to do separately for each drive). In windows, neither CD drive shows up. My board has Award BIOS ver 1.23d if that helps any. The MB manual suggests changing the Integrated Peripherals settings if the system is unable to detect drives, but gives no instruction or advice on how to do it (and I'm always leary of messing with CMOS setup).
Thanks again,
Dale

Hi Dale
Go to CMOS/Integrated Periphials. And check that Onboard IDE 1 and Onboard IDE 2 are enabled. If they need to be changed for any reason use the arrow key/enter and you will get a selection. Making selections is done with the arrow keys and enter.
Exit and save when leaving CMOS.
Basically don't worry about CMOS. If you make a mistake and later on find that it doesn't work just go back to CMOS and choose Default Settings if you want to start over. Then Exit and Save.
Luck.

Thanks again for the reply. I meant to mention in my last post that I had checked to make sure that both IDE controllers were enabled. Would it be worth changing the Primary/Secondary Master/Slave PIO or UDMA settings? I've sent the manufacturer tech support an email, but who can tell when I'll hear back from them... btw Ranchdog, are you a Jimmy Buffett fan? Just wondereing from your signature... Maybe my BIOS need updating, or the board may just be bad (but then again, I can read my HDD with no trouble).
Thanks,
Dale
