When I attempt to use ScanDisk with Win 98 I get the following message whether or not I'm in Safe Mode:

ScanDisk could not continue because your computer does not have enough available memory...

Why, with 200+ MB RAM am I getting this message?

You can try from the DOS Prompt! Reboot and hold down the ctl key (or whatever your version of windows requires) Then at the C:\type Scandisk

It is a thorough disk scan you are after?

Thanks:)

Yes, obviously my problem was a large hard drive that Win 98SE couldn't handle. After trial and error (more error than trial) I was able to partition it successfully into a C and D drive and now ScanDisk and Defrag work fine.

On the Microsoft page it lists one way of dealing with large hard drives is to upgrade to XP which can handle large hard drives. I'm not planning on it, but if I should do so, should I then UNpartition before installing XP?

Thanks,

No, provided of course that your c:\ partition is large enough to accomodate WinXp. It would be best to format the partition though, and do a complete clean install of Xp.
