note, these games are like MW3 not any of the new releases like unreal 04

what modem would be best to use ...One idea i read was to check with your isp to see what servers they are using... will try that..

Someday over the rainbow i hope to get dsl or cable........

The short answer is buy the biggest baddest fastest machine you can and shove it full of RAM:D

I'll leave the details to others - but things to look at include the AMD64 processors and motherboards which support them, or the fast FSBs on some Intel based boards - there's going to be lots of different opinions on exactly which way to go here.....

As for your modem, unfortunately there's not much you can do to stop it being laggy - a newer machine of virtually any variety and a good heaping of RAM will ensure that your machine doesn't lag on games, but it is really down to the speed of the link to the net that causes lag.
Different servers for different games, together with the manufacturer's attention to the problems will also have an effect.
I used to play the Delta Force games, and it wasn't until Black Hawk Down that Novalogic got their act together with regards to net speed. The lag on this particular game wasn't unbearable.

Most game software companies automatically assume that everyone will be connecting via cable/dsl - it's a bit of a bind when you find that their answer is to 'upgrade' to a faster connection.
