Page File Question

Ive noticed that my page file will run anywhere from 153MB to 390MB Ive seen it go from say 170 to 390 in a matter of 20 minutes. The occasion was loading about 8 hours of MP3 music into Windows Media Player. When I unload the disk it stays at 385/375---I thought that when you unload the page file drops back quickly---When I reboot its back to 153 or so and stays there---The page file is determined by Windows [automatic I guess] would I be better of setting a value ??? the minimun is 4 MB and recommened is 766MB allocated is 523MB--dosent this page file affect my system Ram effectivness ???
