2-year old computer with 603TCF mobo. Computer quit. Obvious bad capacitors. Had board repaired and tested. Report was that it was OK. (Repair did not require me to leave memory or processor installed. Repair lab installed processor and memory). Board returned and re-installed in computer. (Board uses Celeron 1 GHz processor). Cannot boot and nothing on monitor screen.

Computer power supply good. 128 MB Memory good. My understanding is that BIOS starts boot process by loading its data into CMOS, and then loading video data into memory, allowing boot messages to appear on the screen. Indicators flash on keyboard, CD-ROM and HDD during the boot process, but that's it. HDD light goes off after a minute or so.

Any suggestions on what to look for next? Would a bad processor prevent the initial boot process?

Hate to buy a new processor if there is some other path to investigate.
HELP.

Describe "quit" when you pushed the power button--what took place
Were the fans running ?? any HDD noise ?? any lights??

Grumper:

When computer quit: Monitor led flashing; CPU fan running; power light on; HDD light on, but went off after a minute or so.

I've ordered a new CPU.

This could be the CPU, as well as it could be other things---lets hear after you install the CPU--dont forget the Artic Silver compound

Grumper:

Replaced processor with a new one; found two cards plugged that I hadn't considered -- ethernet and modem. Not using either, so pulled them. Board came up fine. Conclusion: Processor may not be bad -- one or both of cards probably bad.

Sounds weird but if its working great---now put back one card at a time and see what happens. Now you have an extra cpu or clean it up and send it back---That cpu is like a brick it takes a lot to kill it.If your not using this machine online leave the cards out.
