Pse help me with this problem.
After I installed a driver for a used cd-rw (Brand name 'Justlink' which didn't work) there is an extra message that appears upon bootup of my system. This message appears after the Win98 splashscreen.
It says 'verifying dmi pool data'
Then there is a box with the other cdr details followed by some more messages at the bottom something like "C/windows.comman\exe.\d".
How do I remove this message?

On top of it the splashscreen takes 20 secs before it goes off.
So all in all, the bootup sequence is longer .
Is there anyway I can restore the bootup to its normal sequence pse?
Thanks.
P.S. Oh, I hv since removed the cd-rw but the bootup is still slow.

Verifying pool data is normal, it should have always been there. The other lines are commands dropped into autoexec.bat, config.sys or system.ini by the CD drivers. If you know what you're doing you can get rid of them, maybe, but sometimes they refuse to go away.

Boot into Safe Mode and remove the drive from Device Manager along with any other CD ROM drives that show up. Let it reinstall and see if it still doesn't work.

Are you sure you installed the win98 driver? If it's a win 3x or win95 driver it might not agree with win98 too well.

Also you usually shouldn't have to install CD ROM drivers for win98, only CD Burner software, like Nero. Win98 uses its own native drivers, to test a drive you should be able to hook it up and go, no drivers needed. Then if it reads, install burner software.

Also check Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and see if the driver is listed. If so you can remove it there, but I doubt if it will be there.

O, it wasn't the cd drive that caused the trouble it was the 'Justlink' cd-burner that caused it.
Do I still do the same thing?
Apprec.

Yep.

Remove drive and related software, reboot and try it again.
