I am on a wireless broadband connection at work. We have (as best I can remember) a partial T1 coming into the office with a KTI router. The T1 connection had to be replaced about 3 months ago as it was bad. We have a Cisco 350 wireless access point. The two front office computers are wired to the KTI router with ethernet cable. The other three computers used Cisco wireless cards. That has recently changed as the one laptop kept getting kicked off and the only way for him to get back on the network was to reenter his password. Finally even that wouldn't work so he got a 50 foot cable and connected directly to the KTI router.
Around that time (I actually think it was a little earlier) I started getting slow internet speeds. It is inconsistent and when I go to check connection speed it always shows about where it should (240KB). But even the page to test the connection speed loads slowly usually, then when I actually do the test it visibly speeds up. I found some tracking cookies with Adaware and deleted them. For about 2 minutes my internet speed seemed to come back, then got slow again. The problem is so inconsistent though, that may have been a fluke.
It really acts to me like I've got some virus, malware, spyware etc controling my browser using up my bandwidth. We have others in the office using this bandwidth of course but the slowness continues when I am the only one here. Spybot didn't find anything and I have Norton AV update and scans show nothing. All this suddenly started about 3-4 weeks ago. The first slowness I noticed was MSN homepage start up.
Any suggestions for further checking? Is it possible the computer that was having wireless connection problems is somehow affecting the system? My problems continue when he is gone and that computer is off though.
