Is it a good idea to have two brand of RAM in your computer?

I currently have CORSAIR (XMS Series) 2 X 256 Dual Channal DDR400 RAM. MY motherboard supports dual channel RAM.

I want to upgrade my RAM but do I have to use the same RAM sticks again?

If I use a different brand for my upgrade, what will I have to tweak?
- timing settings?

Ideal situation would be to match...everything, including brand.

The next best is to match the specs.

To elaborate...

The info mjc posted is correct, matching brand and specs is of course best. Mixing brands should work fine, if RAM type and speed are matched. In some cases, different brand and speed can be used, but that doesn't always work. Try that and you're taking your chances...
