Under Display Properties > Desktop > Background: is there an easier of deleting these pictures instead of using "search for files"?

I do not know if this iwhat oyu mean or not.
But if you go to Controll Panel/Add Remove Programs/Windows Components, and then look for THEMES. If you remove these it will get rid off a lot of the things you are talking about.

Not positive what you mean either, but any Photos you've added will show up as options for desktop backgrounds. (Or are you talking about the original backgrounds that came pre-installed with Windows?)
Unless you've changed something, by default anything you've added will be found in your "My Pictures" folder....You can easily delete them from there.
(Or move them to, say a newly created "My Photos" folder, if you want to keep them but no longer want them as options for Desktop Background images)
I always thought they should have named the "My Pictures" folder "My Desktop" instead. :p

If you want to have most of those pictures disappear from the Display Properties>Desktop tab (and don't use .jpgs for desktop backgrounds) you can disable them with TweakUI. In TweakUI under the main Explorer options uncheck "Allow web content to be added to the desktop." All .jpgs will disappear from the Display Properties>Desktop tab, leaving only the .bmp files from the C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper folder. The .jpgs will still be in that folder however.
jabar is right also, if you use any .jpg from your My Pictures folder as a desktop background, all of the image files from that folder will also appear in the Display Properties>Desktop tab.
If you want to delete some of these files go to the two folders mentioned. If you just want to remove them from Display Properties, download TweakUI and disable web content on the desktop.
Be warned, if you disable web content on the destop you will be unable to have icons there also.;)

Yes! Good ol' TweakUI! Forgot all about that one malcore. ;)
Been a while since I've used it for anything, but it's ALWAYS there just in case...Wouldn't be without it.
jkr48625...TweakUI is a great little program you should have regardless what you decide to do with your Desktop. :)
