Recently, I scanned my computer for spyware and removed a great deal of it, but in the process, Internet Explorer was rendered useless. The current version of this "useless" Internet Explorer is 7.0. I have the installation file for IE6.0, but it won't let me re-install due to 7.0 being a newer version.
So I come here to ask, how can I uninstall IE7.0 without harming my system, therefore I can install it anew? I cannot find an uninstaller to it, so someone suggested to remove it via registry.
Thanks!
P.S. (The problem I'm having thats making IE useless, is when I open it up, it goes directly to "unable to find page." If there is a solution to this problem without re-installing, I'd love to here that, so I wont have to go through the whole process.

Internet Explorer 7.0? It does'nt exist. I think your system is still a mess. What did you fix and how did you fix it.

Is it XP SP2 RC1 or a more nefarious incarnation?

I'm running Windows XP. I downloaded a spyware removal tool from download.com (will get you the name soon). I ran it to remove the spyware, and in the end, IE was rendered useless.
I try to re-install IE, but get an error saying the current version is higher (may not be 7.0, but some higher version 6.0.x?

Go into the spyware removal tool and see if you can undo what you did. If you can't post back, & we'll find the IE repair tool. and try to repair ie.

You might still have some nasties hanging around. Let us know what spyware removal tool you used, and we'll go from there. In the meantime if you open Control Panel and look for Add/Remove Programs, under Internet Explorer you should find a Repair option if you try to remove it. Try that, and once we know what application you used to remove spyware we might have some other suggestions.

Because IE is so embedded into WinXP it may sometimes be necessary to Repair WinXP itself. Have a read of the MSKB How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP (Q318378) (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=318378) for more comprehensive information and advice.

Thanks everyone, I will try what is listed on Microsoft's site and report back here if I run into anything else troubling.
