Hi

Just arrived. I was downloading security updates from MSN for Win98. The next thing I knew my pc crashed. It kept giving me a CONFIGMG error message. I was able to restore the registry from and earlier date and this got it running. Most of the programmes I had on would not functio and I have reinstalled them when needed. I decided to take pc back to factory setting but found that when trying to boot from floppy it hangs after checking for boot from floppy Help!!

Welcome to the PC Guide Forums.

Sounds like the floppy drive is not working.

Could be:

1) Bad floppy disk - try a new StartUp disk.

2) Bad floppy drive - try it on a different computer or try a new one in the same computer.

3) Bad floppy drive data cable - try reseating the connectors.

You get this far in the:

BOOT PROBLEM TROUBLESHOOTING WALKTHROUGH
http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/boot/walk/seek0st.htm

Take it from there.

Also download my diagnostic flowcharts from www.erniek.eclipse.co.uk/downloads/sylvanderdiags.zip
and print them.
Then take a look at the FLOPPY DISK DRIVE chart.
