ok. deep breath...

I've been using an A7N8X with an AthlonXP 2400 without problems for over a year now. Then my power supply died.

SO...

I bought a new power supply.

BUT...

my board would no longer post. Instead, the system speaker (on the board) makes a steady repeated crackling/clicking sound when I power it on.

SO...

sent the board to ASUS and (3 weeks later) they send me another one.

but the same thing happens!

My brother has a working A7V8X system, and I've tested all of my components separately in his and they all work fine.

CPU, memory and vid card all work fine.

I've also tried an Athlon 1200 and a Duron 1300 (both of which I know to work) and the same thing happens! That clicking sound and no post.

Also tried testing the board outside the case.

Anybody every seen this or know what the problem might be?

I would be most grateful for your help!

Hmmm....I'm wondering if they just plugged your board into a tester and it checked out...then, they sent it back...

Anyway to verify that you truly have a different board than the one you sent them??

Did you try it barebones outside of the case??

Double check the connections to the case.

Your system worked fine before.

Your parts work fine in another system.

Same problem occurs with different CPUs known to work.

What has changed?

The power supply....

What make is it and what are the power ratings?

If you have a voltmeter, test it. If you can try it in another system, do so. If you can test with a different power supply, do so.

If you purchased it very recently, return it or exchange it.

Good call!

It was indeed the new power supply. Got a different one and all is well.

thanks!
