I had a prob with my CD rom and decided to investigate, after some clicking around and rebooting i went into settings at start up and clicked on "safe defult settings" after this the computer has now gone into standby mode and will not do anything. i get no beeps, CPU fan is working, just standby mode.
The manufacturers settings are set to boot off D drive so a boot floppy is no good, its says in the manual to boot the computer by putting in the windows 98 SE disk, i did this and still nothing, i changed the CD rom and still nothing.
system: cellaron 400, 32 megs sdram, the comp is a patriot.
any help work be great thanx

Hi and Welcome,

I only have one idea at the present time, and there is no guarantee that it will work. But here it is:

Open the case and find the CMOS battery on the motherboard. It's a coin battery, about the size of a U.S. quarter. Remove it, (It just pops out) and leave it out for about 30 minutes. Reinsert it and try to boot up. Let us know what happens.

As an alternative, you can try the Clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard. You will need the users manual for the motherboard to determine the right jumper. Or, sometimes you can see the silkscreening on the motherboard well enough to pinpoint the jumper. I believe in Normal mode, the jumper is across pins 1 and 2. What you need to do is to place the jumper across pins 2 and 3. Then, boot the computer. Of course, nothing will happen, so turn it off again. Reposition the jumper back across pins 1 and 2. Reboot and let us know what happens.

Either of the two methods above will clear the CMOS, which is what we want to do at this point. So do whichever one you're most comfortable with and post back with your progress.

Good luck.
