I have this gateway computer from my cousin that is using the intel D85GB motherboard. I went to intel website and download the latest bios. I followed the procedure there. Extracting the things into a floopy disk. Then i boot the computer with the floopy to update the bios and followed the intructions. When everything was done, i check the bios version but it is still the old one and not the new version. Why is it like this? Gateway doesn'nt allow people to change things?

Go to the Gateway site and get "their" bios , they are like Dell and Compaq they want things done their way ---Intel writes Bios for all their MOBO`s Gateway will direct you to a Bios they want you to use for that INTEL MOBO.

Is there no easy BIOS upgrade tool you could use to update BIOS in an operating system enviroment, rather than from Floppy?
I must admit I have never updated BIOS from floppy, only ever from windows, but given the choice I feel more comfortable updating using a windows based tool.

Some MotherBoard s can go Windows with a Flash Utility ex: ASUS and you have some that will go either way, sort of "Bi Bios" and use a floppy---either way its still done thru a DOS type format---Pick your Motherboard then D/Load the BIOS as far as an "easy D/L BIOS tool"--none that I know of----I like the floppy route, its been around for a long time---

Go " just follow the instructions and you will be fine "
