I had some problems with spy ware and did all recommended here to clean it up.

I posted that when I restart, I get the following error:

"While initializing device AVGCORE Windows Protection Error. You need to restart your computer."

I just ran A squared and do not have any malware. I am at a loss as to why my AVG Shows that I haven't updated EVEN THOUGH the the Anti-virus says it is updated 5-2-2004. The lettering is in RED and it says the AV hasn't been updated in 14 DAYS!!

Should I uninstall and reinstall AVG? Any other suggestions? Thanks!!

Some malware does interfere with A/V programs. Probably the easiest way out is to uninstall AVG. and reinstall from a frsh download.

Kwagner, just curious, what OS are you running, and have you run your adaware, spybot, and AV from safe mode yet? If AV in safe mode gives you a file name, like downloader.buttpain.exe, use 'serach files and folders' in safe mode and try to axe it there, although I agree, at this point I would uninstall AV and download it afresh whatever else is discovered. :( :)

It might also be a good idea to run an online virus scan and consider doing a fresh HJT log. If you haven't installed the latest Windoze updates, it is possible that you picked up the new worm or something else. The trojan scan will only indicate trojans and you could have other malware....

The lettering is in RED and it says the AV hasn't been updated in 14 DAYS!! Concerning the above quote...It made me smile a bit.

I had the same warning message once.
Turned out it was because the Server was in Europe, and they had released an update that was basically released "tomorrow" here. (Hehe...Did that make sense?) :p

Anyway, the minute it hit Midnight here in the States, I closed AVG, restarted, and everything was "up to date" so to speak.

You're right...Pretty bizarre that the definitions date says todays date, yet it shows as being 14 days old until our time "catches up" with theirs. :D
(Even though it said 14 days out of date, you had the freshest update anyone could possibly hope for at the time)!

It's since happened to me again, but now I know just to wait until Midnight. (Or go to bed and look at it again in the morning) :)

Hope you didn't go through all the trouble of reinstalling...If you did it before midnight, you might have ended up with the same message! (Hmmm...Have to think about that one).

If any of that made sense to those of you reading it, you're as much of a Nut as I am.

I started in safe mode to see if I could fix AVG. Decided to check the scan report. All I can say is, I have been EXTREMELY busy!!:o

What with my nursing classes and helping my 4 kids with their homework. One has timed math pages to do....You can see where this is going...right??

I used the clock to time the kiddo and accidently set it for JUNE!!! No wonder it kept telling me that it was more than 14 days old!! :o

Anyway, I wanted to let you know what a dumb thing I did and to thank you for taking your time to help this overworked idiot 'fix' her computer. LOLOLOLOL :D :D :D

Thanks all!!
