Mailwasher is set to blacklist [+ delete + bounce] this, but I'd rather not even see it listed.

My ISP [Blueyonder] tech assistance say that no ISP offers the ability to block and delete e-mails on the server so they don't even show up in the users' list.
He says he doesn't know why this is so.
Does anyone out there know?

Is there a way to do this?

ANY ISP worth their salt can block anything they want. The reason they don't is it's too hard to distisguish between SPAM and real e-mail.

One man's spam is another person's valuable communication..... If they weren't making money off of this stuff they would have stopped long ago.

"If they weren't making money off of this stuff they would have stopped long ago."
Tell me more.
I kinda suspected they have a monetary interest in not allowing users to block and delete e-mails on the server.
Wouldn't it be nice if the user could maintain a list of rules on the server for what is to be done with their mail?

I was speaking of the spammers not the ISP's. The problem is the POP3 and SMTP protocols have become standards and they are old not built to handle the security involved.

ISP's have a hard time blocking becuase they are afraid they will block out something the customer wants. I personally use Spamimilator and it works off and on. I get it trained and then for a few weeks no spam, then a new batch get's through. It's like spayware. You just have to keep up. The good thing about Spamimilator is you can train it block anything from emusing or any other domain so I find it the best I can do at this time.

You say you bounce the files back with mailwasher.

I was reading in the Langa List a couple of weeks ago about a bloke that used the bounce feature and ended up on a blacklist becuase HE was sending SPAM by returning the mail to the sender. It turns out that when you use the bounce feature you ARE sending SPAM. (unwanted and unsolicited mail)

Now adays with as so many spammers use spoof addresses it is a pointless excersize anyway, and some unsuspecting, innocent, individual is being bombarded by these returns.

I turned the bounce facillity of a while ago because of this. Now just have blacklist without bounce.

I only use bounce if I think it is appropriate.
Most of the time I don't use it.

My understanding is that sender receives a notification from the ISP that the mail address to which the e-mail was sent does not exist or could not be found.
Neither the ISP or myself is sending unsolicited mail. The sender is being kept informed of the progress of the mail they sent. To fail to inform them that their communication could not be delivered would be to leave them unaware.
Usually the sender then removes that address from their mailing list because they figure that the recipient either does not exist or is blocking the mail, so there's no point in continuing to send.

I have often been informed that an e-mail could not be delivered and am very glad to be told that.
In my case I sent a numerical sequence of photographs of Edinburgh.
[would you like copies? They are rather good.]
Some of the photos arrived and some did not.
[because the mail box was full, or whatever]
So then I had to investigate, fix the problem, and re-send those that hadn't been delivered.

emusing dot com is the only sender, in my case, who has continued to send.
I assume there is no thinking individual involved or even any feedback process that registers such a return. Either that or someone has formed a policy to continue to send under such circumstances.

It's my (understudy here) understanding that my Earthlink Spam Blocker blocks spam on the server, and they say in the Daily Spam Blocker Summary:

"Below is a summary of suspect email messages. No action is necessary. Messages will be deleted 14 days after receipt."

It's contents are not posted in my mail box but only in the file, where I have a choice to open any item, forward it to in-box or delete, or leave it to be deleted automatically. Izzat what you meant?

That's exactly what I mean.

I've just discovered though, that I didn't know how to make full use of Mailwasher :o

I have now found how to use "Tools->Filters" to specify that [under certain conditions] an e-mail should not be displayed, and/or should be deleted, and/or should be bounced.

PERFECT ! :D

I won't even see the offending e-mails listed, and when I click "Process Mail", they will be deleted [and bounced if I so specify].
