Hi,
does anyone have any experience of using REAL VNC from http://www.realvnc.com/
either for personal or business use?

Thanks,

I used it briefly when I was connecting to the internet via a windows dial-up machine. It did everything I needed and didnt give me any trouble. I dont know if they have added any features since I used it though.

I personally also now use TightVNC (http://www.tightvnc.org/) which is based on and compatible with the original VNC but allows SSH tunneling on UNIX machines.

[EDIT]
Seems that RealVNC can also do SSH tunneling now, so it looks like it has changed a bit since I used it.

I also use TightVNC and think it is a great wee program. They are also in the process of making a version that will allow you to transfer files as well.

At present the beta version available allows you to do this. It gives a warning that it might (this version) be unstable, but I am running it along side the last stable version and have no problems transfering individual files.

If TightVMC is setup properly, and you have a home network (LAN) where your kids can surf the internet, it can allow you to check out your kids desktop, with/without thier knowledge, to make sure that they are surfing safely on the internet.

Thanks for the info guys, just what I was looking for. I will have a close look at them both, I just want to be able to housekeep at a distance on your typical win/dialup so the either will do for me I am sure.

Thanks a million, graham

UltraVNC is another great VNC.
Ultr@VNC is an enhanced VNC distribution, for Win32 plateforms only (for now). It's based on RealVNC, features TightVNC smart cursor handling and encoding, almost all the special functionnalities that can be found in eSVNC and Vdacc-VNC, and a LOT more.

I had no problems with it. Its still a release candidate though.
