I am geting some e-mails with '***SPAM***' in the subject line, which is mostly correct, but who is putting it in the subject line ???
I figure it must be mailwasher or bt or other, but is it done from a known list of spammers ???

I wouldn't complain Vic....Whoever is doing it, they're finally using the proper subject heading. :D
(Other than that, beats me) :p

I discovered a couple of days back that in Mailwasher it's possible to go to "Tools->Filters" and make a rule to hide/delete/bounce [if "Spam" is part of the subject perhaps].
It's brilliant. ;)
No need to see the spam listed and it's deleted or whatever [on the server] when "Process Mail" is clicked.

hi sylvander,
I've been using those filters too, which is initially user selected. ie: first time the user selects and blacklists, then with filter set, next and subsequent occasions they are deleted without being shown. yeh that's good with the amount of spam around now.
but this is like a program is marking it from a list of known spammers, which is good because it is quick id, then of course if user blacklists it the filter takes over in future.
but I am curious as to how it's getting marked, I have several progs running but found no evidence of any of them doing this.
surely someone must know !!!!!

Strange Vic- Sorry I'm not much help here. But I do know one thing....I've yet to receive any Spam where the "Spammer" told me that's what is was! (As if it were something to look forward to as I clicked on it). :p
I haven't used Mailwasher, but if that's what it's doing from some sort of list, that's pretty cool!
(Hopefully, someone will have a definite answer to this mystery for you)

It puzzles me.
I don't understand how some agency other than the sender could alter the subject line of an e-mail in transit.
Jabar
It can be a little disconcerting to see a note at the bottom of the Mailwasher window saying that 2 or 3 or whatever e-mails are being hidden from view, but once confidence is gained I know that these SHOULD be hidden and I'd rather not see them.
Only the good ones are on view.
And my copy of Mailwasher fetches all the mail for all my identities & accounts including Hotmail, so I know which ones to go to for mail.

Some ISPs are marking email as SPAM and IE has the capability of doing that depending on how you set up the filters. There are a number of SPAM winnowing programs that will do it too. I believe the new and totally useless SPAM law requires it, but I don't think any SPAMmers are paying attention to that....

hey sylvander, I havent seen a notice on mailwasher that some are hidden. !

That's a good one!
Being Spammed by sellers of anti-Spam Software....Is nothing sacred in this World anymore?
What's next? Symantec sending out a top secret Worm that automatically installs "Norton System Works" on your Computer while you're sleeping? :p :D

Hi Vic.
The status bar at the bottom of the window.
Where is normally displayed, the number of accounts that mail is being fetched from.
When the mail has been fetched:
If some of that mail has been hidden due to a filter having been set up:
Then there is displayed there, the number of mails being hidden from view.
My blacklisted mails are normally displayed unless I set up a filter specifying that they should be hidden.
None are hidden automatically.
