I put together an AMD 266 and motherboard for my parents. I have checked all the connections and I am still getting the "cmos checksum error cmos battery failed" I have tried everything. I even baught a new battery and I am still gettin the same message. Any suggestions would be appreciated thanx
Look for a "clear CMOS" jumper and make sure that it is in the run position, not the clear......

Welcome Ginuwine....
Give this a try.
Remove the battery once again. Straighten out a paper clip and momentarily touch the + and - . Re-install battery.
And hopefully the new battery was the correct one and all. And a good one.
Luck.

I have tried removing the battery and replacing it and clearing the cmos, but nothing works. Also since I am using a formated hard drive I cant do anything else. Once I press F1 to get past the error message It gives me an invalid system disk error. I cant boot with a cd or disk because cmos is not saving any of the settings for the boot sequence.

I apologize for stating the obvious, you did hit "del" enter BIOS and then exit and save, didn't you.
The MB or power supply may be bad.
If the PS fan runs, then it should be ok.
Install just the PS, MB, CPU, and case speaker, and place the MB on a piece of cardboard to insulate it from the case.
If you do not hear any beeps, then suspect a bad MB.
If you hear beeps, make sure none of the MB screw heads are coming in contact with any of the MB's circuitry.
