View Full Version : Somethings wrong ?
OK, so i was searching google trying to find out what wtoolsA.exe, and wSup.exe and WkCalRem.exe are. when I care across this forum. So I ran Hijackthis program and this is what I found out.
Every now and then a new screen tries to open up on the pc. I run norton. so it usually shuts it down right away, but it sometimes locks up the computer.
So now could someone please tell me what to remove. Or suggest something I could try. I've also ran ad-ware, spybot, and cleancenter.
Thanks for any help

:) :)
HJT reading experts will tell you how to handle your HJT log. I cannot do that. I would only say that every time I have tried to download Quicktime, and/or actually got it down it has ALWAYS been a pain in the butt, and everytime I got rid of it my machine smoothed out again.
There is a Quicktime alternative and a Real Player alternative, which I am looking into per recommendation of others on this forum. Find out about it by putting "Quicktime alternative" (or Real Player...) into Google.
Also, it looks like you are running the HJT from a ZIP file. When you downloaded it, did you check the box that says "extract to a file" It should look like C:\unzipped\Hijackthis.... Download it again amd extract it to a "C:\" file, if not the changes won't take.
Wait for an expert on the HJT log.:)

First
1) Download, install & update Spoybot S&D.
2) Download, install & update Adaware.
3) Scan with Spybot and fix all items
4) Shutdown
5) San with adware and fix all items
6)Shutdown.
7) Update your AV definitions and run a full scan
8) Go on line and run and on-line scan
9) Create a folder call HJT and copy the Hijackthis.exe to that folder before running it. If you run from temp folder, you can not restore any backups.
10) Re-run the HJT and post the log here. You have quite a little pest farm going.
Wintools is a baddie. So is Wildtangent. You hav several other baddies there as well. Let's see what we can do with stepns 1-10 and post back your results.

You have Look2Me (Zestyfind) and it is a real pain to kill... Do what classicsoftware suggested and we can walk you through killing the rest of the bad stuff including Look2Me...
When you run AdAware use the deepest scans it has in Settings and it will probably tell you it can't fix one file and will fix it on reboot. This will probably not work, but write down all the info it gives you about that file so we can know where to look....
Thanks for the help. First I uninstalled a bunch of downloaded games (my son will be pissed, but I'm sure that is where most of this junk is coming from) then I followed your steps and re-ran hijackthis here are the results;

Did you run the spyware scans?? If you did, did AdAware indicate that there was a file it had to fix on reboot?? If so, what was the name of that file and where was it?? Please provide as much info as possible, you have a mess here and these fixes will only partly deal with it:
Close all windows and browsers, run HJT and mark/fix:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://iwon.com/
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = res://C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll/sa
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = http://www.websearch.com/ie.aspx?tb_id=50032

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DefaultBind] C:\PROGRA~1\Gpl Meta\nurb fast bin.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Uninstall_WinTools] C:\DOCUME~1\Statler\LOCALS~1\Temp\WTuninst.exe remove

Then reboot to Safe Mode and check in Add/Remove Programs for these. If not there, find and delete them. You may need to set WinXP to show hidden files...
C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools\WToolsA.exe
C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools\WSup.exe
Then reboot and post a new HJT log with info about what else you have done....
Yes, I ran adware. (after updating) It did NOT tell me that it had to reboot to fix anything.
Ran HJT and fixed what you suggested. ? iwon was my home page should I not be using this site ? Another Questions are these files coming from downloaded games ?

Close ALL internet explorer windows before running HJT.
Re-post your log.
It looks pretty clean to me. I still have a few questions.
Do you have a DVD?
Is this a laptop/notebook?
What kind of video card do you have?
Do you feel comfortable editing the registry?
Yes, have a dvd.
Desktop PC. - wireless connection set up connecting to another desktop pc.
What are these ones?
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\WkCalRem.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /installquiet
We dont use Yahoo chat either so should I assume its same to remove this one also ?
O16 - DPF: Yahoo! Chat - http://us.chat1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/chat/applet/c381/chat.cab
Video card - Not sure - whatever came intergrated into our sony vaio pcvrs - 431x. Under device manager - sound video and game controllers - legacy video capture device is listed along with Video Codecs. That is all I see under anything video related. Am I loooking in the wrong place ?
If your willing to take me step by step I'll gladly edit the registry.

WkCalRem.exe produces a pop-up reminder of events scheduled using the MS Works Calendar.
nwiz.exe is an application that allows a users to have 32 virtual desktops, get a desktop larger than the viewable area of the monitor, divide the display across more than one monitor, manage applications, and many more features.
You can certainly fix this entry:

CJK4:
Good work so far, but if you'll accept a few words from a fellow understudy that has and is learning a lot from these folks--it is *imperative* that you take Classicosoftware's advice (above) about downloading, UPDATING (every three days or so) and using: SpyBot & SpyBot Advanced, and Adaware, at the very least. I try to run them every time I leave the internet, and I have A-Squared (that also has to be run manually like SpyBot), and I run that about every 3 days. I also use SpywareGuard, MRU Blaster, SpywareBlaster, and Script Sentry which all run in the background and use bare minimum resource. My machine is very quiet these days. There is so much sneaky choking malware out there these days--firewall, anti-spam, and AV (in your NIS) is not likely to be enough, as the present situation would seem to indicate. I didn't notice any of them in your HJT log, so I thought I'd remind you again and stress the value of these free programs.

Re: iwon.com... Please read this:

You log looks clean, but you can fix the O16 as Steve said... actually you can fix all O16s since they are restored when you revisit the site it refers to, but I suggest you always check before fixing anything else...
I am not seeing anything that would require a manual Registry edit...
As far as whether your infections came from downloading online games, the answer is a definite MAYBE.... you can pick up garbage just by being online if you don't have adequate protections set up... This includes some of the things Donn is talking about and a good firewall and update antivirus....
Many Thanks to all of you for the help. Everything seems to be running normal again.
;)
