Many of these spyware, trojans and other crap that have been dogging us get their start in the TIF and TEMP folders. I have no proof this will work but I've been around this stuff long enough to know it just might help a little. Sort of like putting the extra lock on your front door. Won't stop everything but it might stop something.

Download and install Eraser (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/eraser/Eraser57Setup.zip).

Set it up to schedule a daily empyting of the TIF and TEMP folders and remove all subfolders. It should be able to obliterate all files except for one. If it encounters a file other than Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat you almost surely have a problem.

p.s. added bonus emptying these olders generally helps the system run faster.

It might help, but I sure wouldn't use it as my only defense....:D :D

Budfred, you know me well enough to know that I DO NOT think this is the only line of defense. I just see soo many programs loading from and lurking in the TIF it might be beneficial.

Indeed, I was responding to en4cer's question, not saying that you were proposing it as the only defense... I think your computer may even be more armored than mine....:D :D
